From prose to metre

Level 4: Composition and Refinement · about 20 minutes

Start from an idea in prose, choose a bahr, and try word orders until the weights fall into place. Short forms (mire, ik, gar), filler words (to, bhii, hii) and vasl are your tools.

Example: the idea 'there is no cure for my pain' in Khafif. 'mere dard kii koii davaa nahiiñ' does not scan; 'mere dukh kii davaa kare koii' (Ghalib) does.

Studio: Prose to metre

These are the words of a misra in Hazaj musamman sālim (mafā'īlun mafā'īlun mafā'īlun mafā'īlun). Tap them in an order that scans. Any order the engine accepts counts, not only the poet's.

Write a thought in plain Urdu (Roman or Urdu script) and pick a bahr. The engine shows where it breaks and which rearrangements, short forms or synonyms bring it into metre.
