Commentaire (sharh)

The opening of Tarana-e-Hind (1904). The land is a garden and its people are nightingales: an extended metaphor (isti'ara) drawn from the Persian garden imagery of the ghazal. Each line splits into two matching halves, which makes it easy to sing.
