Commentary (sharh)

The beloved (the rose, gul) is the only one in the garden who does not know of the lover's suffering, or pretends not to. Repetition (tikraar) of patta patta, buuTa buuTa and jaane gives the line its folk-song music. The metre is Mir's own Hindi metre, counted in beats where a long may be split into two shorts.
