• نہ پوچھ وسعتِ مے خانۂ جنوں غالبGhalib, do not ask how wide is the tavern of madness,
• وسعتِ سعیِ کرم دیکھ کہ سر تا سرِ خاکSee the reach of generosity's effort: over the whole earth
• نہ گل نغمہ ہوں نہ پردۂ سازI am neither the flower of song nor the veil of the lute:
• اسد اللہ خاں تمام ہواAsadullah Khan is finished:
• مُژدہ، اے ذَوقِ اسیری! کہ نظر آتا ہےGood news, O taste for captivity! There appears
• مر گیا پھوڑ کے سر غالب وحشی، ہَے ہَے!Wild Ghalib died breaking his head, alas, alas!
