Updated
Sajid Ali Ameer (ساجد علی امیر) is a young Pakistani critic and scholar of Urdu literature. His first book, Asateeri Mabahis (Mythological Discourses and Other Essays), was published by Ikai Publishers, Faisalabad, in 2026, and appears on this site in Urdu with a facing English translation, with his permission.
Work
In the preface to his book he describes six years of serious reading and writing, during which his research, analytical and appreciative essays appeared in literary journals in Pakistan and abroad. He studied Urdu at MPhil level, and names as his teachers the critics Dr Alamdar Hussain Bukhari, Dr Abid Khurshid and Dr Shabbir Ahmad Qadri.
His interests run from textual scholarship, comparing editions of classic texts, to literary theory and the place of myth in modern Urdu poetry, as well as reviews of new poetry and fiction.
On the book
The preface opens with a defence of the book in the digital age: as information becomes faster and easier to copy, he argues, the book becomes more important, not less, as the guarantee of a text's authenticity. Read the preface free here.
