• غنچۂ ناشگفتہ کو دور سے مت دکھا، کہ یُوںDo not show me an unopened bud from afar, saying "like this":
• جو یہ کہے کہ ریختہ کیوں کر ہو رشکِ فارسیWhoever asks how Rekhta (Urdu verse) can be the envy of Persian,
• حسد سے دل اگر افسردہ ہے، گرمِ تماشا ہوIf your heart is chilled by envy, grow warm with watching:
• اگر وہ سروقد گرمِ خرامِ ناز آ جاوےIf that cypress-tall one should come, warm with her graceful walk,
• اس فتنہ خو کے در سے اب اٹھتے نہیں اسدAsad, we will not rise now from the door of that troublemaker,
• واں اس کو ہولِ دل ہے تو یاں میں ہوں شرمسارThere she is seized with dread of heart, and here I am ashamed:
