• دوست غمخواری میں میری سعی فرمائیں گے کیاWhat will my friends do, trying to console me?
• ہے اب اس معمورے میں قحطِ غمِ الفت اسدؔNow, Asad, in this crowded city there is a famine of love's sorrow;
• یہ نہ تھی ہماری قسمت کہ وصالِ یار ہوتاIt was not my fate to meet my love;
• یہ مسائلِ تصوف یہ ترا بیان غالبؔThese questions of Sufism, and your telling of them, Ghalib!
• ہوس کو ہے نشاطِ کار کیا کیاDesire takes delight in so many things;
• بلائے جاں ہے غالبؔ اس کی ہر باتGhalib, everything about her is the bane of my life:
