Comentario (sharh)

The opening sher of the Diwan. It alludes (talmeeh) to an old Persian custom: a petitioner seeking justice came before the king dressed in paper. Every created form, Ghalib says, wears paper, so all of creation is a complaint against the whimsical artistry of its Maker. A famously difficult sher: begin with the image of the paper robe and the rest opens up.
