In my house of darkness the night of grief is surging:one candle, the sign of dawn, and that too is out.

• عشرتِ قطرہ ہے دریا میں فنا ہو جاناThe drop's delight is to die into the river;
• بخشے ہے جلوۂ گل، ذوقِ تماشا غالبؔThe glory of the rose, Ghalib, gives such joy in looking
• گھر جب بنا لیا ترے در پر کہے بغیرNow that I have made my home at your door without asking,
• غالبؔ نہ کر حضور میں تو بار بار عرضGhalib, do not keep pleading before your lord;
• لازم تھا کہ دیکھو مرا رستہ کوئی دن اورYou should have waited for me a few days more;
• ناداں ہو جو کہتے ہو کہ ’کیوں جیتے ہیں غالبؔ‘You are foolish if you ask, "Why does Ghalib live on?"
