Rustam-o-Sohrab is a play by Agha Hashr Kashmiri (1879–1935), first staged in 1929. Agha Hashr died in 1935, so the play is in the public domain in Pakistan and India.
”رستم و سہراب“ آغا حشر کاشمیری (۱۸۷۹ء–۱۹۳۵ء) کا ڈراما ہے جو پہلی بار ۱۹۲۹ء میں اسٹیج ہوا۔ آغا حشر کا انتقال ۱۹۳۵ء میں ہوا، اس لیے یہ ڈراما پاکستان اور ہندوستان میں عوامی ملکیت (پبلک ڈومین) میں ہے۔
The Urdu text was transcribed for this library, page by page, from Kulliyat-e-Agha Hashr Kashmiri, volume 4, edited by Agha Jameel Kashmiri and Yaqoob Yawar (Qaumi Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, New Delhi, 2004; Digital Library of India copy on archive.org). Only Agha Hashr's play is reproduced: the cast list, acts, scenes, stage directions and all the dialogue and verse. The editors' introduction and footnotes are not included. Where a speech runs across a page break it is joined; where the print omits a speaker's name that the stage directions make plain, the name is supplied.

Introduction
تعارف
Agha Hashr Kashmiri was the most celebrated playwright of the Urdu Parsi theatre, often called "the Shakespeare of India". Born in Banaras, he wrote for the great touring companies of Bombay and Calcutta for more than thirty years, adapting Shakespeare and writing original plays in a powerful mixture of rhetorical prose and verse.
آغا حشر کاشمیری اردو پارسی تھیٹر کے سب سے مشہور ڈراما نگار تھے، جنہیں اکثر ”ہندوستان کا شیکسپیئر“ کہا جاتا ہے۔ بنارس میں پیدا ہوئے اور تیس برس سے زیادہ بمبئی اور کلکتہ کی بڑی تھیٹر کمپنیوں کے لیے لکھتے رہے؛ شیکسپیئر کے ڈرامے اردو میں ڈھالے اور پُرزور مقفیٰ نثر اور نظم کے امتزاج میں اپنے ڈرامے لکھے۔
Rustam-o-Sohrab, among his last works, takes its story from Firdausi's Shahnameh. Rustam, the champion of Iran, marries Tahmina, the princess of Samangan, and leaves before their son is born. Sohrab grows up a warrior, sets out to find his father, and leads the army of Turan against Iran; through pride, deceit and fate, father and son meet in single combat without knowing each other. The play is studied as a classic of Urdu drama and is on the Urdu syllabus of Pakistan's Higher Education Commission.
”رستم و سہراب“ ان کی آخری تخلیقات میں سے ہے اور اس کا قصہ فردوسی کے شاہنامے سے لیا گیا ہے۔ ایران کا پہلوان رستم سمنگان کی شہزادی تہمینہ سے بیاہ کرتا ہے اور بیٹے کی پیدائش سے پہلے چلا جاتا ہے۔ سہراب جوان ہو کر جنگجو بنتا ہے، باپ کی تلاش میں نکلتا ہے اور ایران کے خلاف توران کے لشکر کی قیادت کرتا ہے؛ غرور، فریب اور تقدیر کے ہاتھوں باپ بیٹا ایک دوسرے کو پہچانے بغیر آمنے سامنے لڑتے ہیں۔ یہ ڈراما اردو ڈرامے کی کلاسیک کے طور پر پڑھا جاتا ہے اور ہائر ایجوکیشن کمیشن پاکستان کے اردو نصاب میں شامل ہے۔
