This agreement is between Urdu in Translation (www.urduintranslation.com, founded by Asghar Bashir; "we" or "us") and the publishing house named in the form above ("the Publisher" or "you").

The titles are the books you upload in your publisher dashboard. For each title you choose its agreement type and the rights you grant, and confirm your rights in it. A title is covered by this agreement from the day we approve it.

Agreement types: "Paid" earns royalties at the rates in Schedule A. "Free contribution" is read free of charge under your name and earns no royalty. "Rights grant" lets us publish and translate the book, non-exclusively and with full credit to you, without royalty.

For each title, and only for the rights you tick for it, you give us a licence to:

host the Urdu edition for signed-in members to read online, worldwide;

sell the Urdu PDF only to buyers outside your home country (Pakistan, or India for an Indian publisher). This is exclusive abroad for 12 months, renewable, if you choose the 60% rate, and non-exclusive if you choose the 50% rate;

make and sell translations into English, Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish, only for titles where you tick translations.

With the 60% rate you agree not to sell the same PDF or e-book outside your home country through anyone else for those 12 months.

For every title you confirm that you hold its digital and translation rights, not only the print rights, or have the author's (or heirs') written consent to this licence, and will show it to us on request. You pay any share owed to the author out of what we pay you. If this proves untrue you are responsible for the claims that result, and we may remove the title at once.

Translations are made with AI and labelled as AI translations. Nothing goes live until you approve it.

Every translation made by Urdu in Translation belongs to Urdu in Translation and is sold only through it. You may not publish, print, upload or sell any of these translations anywhere else, including Amazon Kindle, KDP or any e-book store, unless you first sign a separate written deal with Urdu in Translation that sets the royalty.

We do not publish your Urdu books on Amazon Kindle or any other e-book store. You may do that yourself for your own Urdu editions, subject to clause 3 if you chose the 60% rate.

Our reader shows each book as chapters. A "page" is one printed page of your PDF; where a chapter's printed pages are not known, 250 words of its text count as one page (a 5000-word chapter read in full is 20 pages).

A chapter counts once per member per calendar month. The pages credited are the chapter's pages times the share of the chapter the member scrolled through, and never more than one page for every 20 seconds the chapter was on screen. Readers who are not signed in, bots, our admins and your own account are not counted. Each read is tagged as Pakistan pricing, international pricing or university licence.

We pay at the rates in Schedule A, every quarter (January, April, July, October), with a statement in your dashboard, by bank transfer, JazzCash or Easypaisa (Indian and foreign publishers in US dollars by bank, Payoneer or Wise).

Amounts below PKR 2,000 (or its dollar equivalent) roll over to the next quarter. Exchange rate: the rate on the day the statement is made, shown on the statement.

You keep all print sales. We sell no PDF of your Urdu edition to buyers in your home country, and members there read it online only. Each book page shows your name, links to your publisher page, and has a "Buy the print book from the publisher" button with your shop link and, if you wish, your phone or WhatsApp number.

Online reading is for signed-in members only. Every PDF download is stamped with the buyer's name and email.

Copyright in the Urdu work stays with the author or the Publisher. The author, the Publisher and the imprint are credited on every book and chapter page.

This agreement lasts three years from signing and renews automatically for further three-year periods. Either side may end it, or you may withdraw a single title from your dashboard, with 90 days' notice. Payments already earned are still paid.

Each side handles its own taxes. Any tax we must deduct at source comes with a certificate.

This agreement is governed by the laws of Pakistan; the courts at Lahore have jurisdiction (Indian publishers: the same terms, paid in US dollars). If the English and Urdu texts differ, the English prevails.

Your identity number and payout details are used only for this agreement and for payments, and are never shown publicly.

By ticking the boxes and typing your full name you sign electronically, under Pakistan's Electronic Transactions Ordinance 2002. We record the date and time, your account, your internet address and this exact text, and email a copy to both sides.

Urdu PDF sold to a reader outside your home country: 60% of the net price after the payment fee (50% without exclusivity). You set the price; we suggest US$5 to 9.

Translated PDF sold on our site: 60% of net (50% without exclusivity).

1,000 pages read by members on Pakistan pricing: PKR 30.

1,000 pages read by members on international pricing: US$2.

1,000 pages read through a university licence: PKR 30 (Pakistani university) or US$2 (foreign).

PDF sales inside your home country: none. Print is yours.

Partner PDFs are not included in free Patron downloads or in any membership download allowance.

Safety rule: read royalties come from a readers' pool of 20% of our membership income. If the reads in a quarter would cost more than the pool, that quarter's read rates are reduced in proportion, and the statement shows the figures.
