Ameer Minai

Forty-seven poems by Ameer Ahmad Ameer Minai (1829–1900), court poet of Lucknow and Rampur, lexicographer and friendly rival of Dagh: forty-three ghazals and four naats in praise of the Prophet, all his poems on Urdu Wikisource. Among them is his most famous ghazal, "The veil keeps slipping from her face, slowly, slowly", with refrains such as "we too are", "the answer" and "mashallah" turned with Lucknow wit and an easy, conversational touch.
